Squirrels, Shiny Objects and the Art of Doing Nothing
I have more momentum than results.
There. I said it.
I’ve got projects everywhere. Ideas everywhere. Opportunities everywhere.
And instead of finishing what I started, I keep spotting another shiny object and thinking:
“Ooh… that looks interesting.” 🐿️
I think I’ve become a squirrel.
Not because I spend my days climbing trees and throwing nuts at people.
Although some days…
It’s because I keep collecting things.
Projects.
Ideas.
Websites.
Opportunities.
New things to try.
And the annoying thing is, they’re mostly good ideas.
So I chase them.
I build momentum.
Then another shiny object appears.
And off I go.
Before I know it, I’ve got a forest full of half buried nuts and not enough finished projects to show for it.
The Art of Doing Nothing
So I think it’s time to stop.
Not quit.
Not abandon everything.
Just stop looking for more nuts.
Sometimes doing nothing is actually doing something.
I’m going into hibernation mode for a while.
Quiet work.
Finish things.
Clean things up.
Turn some of that momentum into something tangible.
No new projects.
No chasing every interesting idea.
No worrying about what I could be doing next.
Just finishing what’s already in front of me.
There’s plenty of time to go hunting again.
Spring will come.
There will be more nuts.
There are always more nuts.
But right now, I think I need to eat some of the ones I’ve already collected.
Less chasing. More finishing.
Maybe doing nothing isn't the opposite of productivity.
Maybe sometimes, it’s exactly what we need to get something done.
