My Cat Has a Jealousy Problem – But His Sister’s Kittens Are Just Too Cute to Care
You know that saying, “The cat’s out of the bag”? Well, in this case, the cat is very much in the house – sulking, glaring, and trying desperately to reclaim the throne he believes he never gave up. Numero UNO, yes he is Uno the cat…. ask me about the story behind the naming, but i digress…
Yes, I live with a jealous cat. A handsome boy, don’t get me wrong. Regal, mysterious, dramatic, a feline mix between James Bond and a grumpy grandpa. But recently, he’s been knocked off his high perch… by a pack of tiny, all-black, unbearably adorable fluff balls. We can talk about them later.
His sister just had kittens. And let me tell you: they are not just cute. They’re illegal levels of cute. Tiny bat-like ears, slinky little stumpy tails, and eyes so wide you could fall into them and forget all your problems. They wobble. They squeak. They cuddle each other in a pile like they’re practicing synchronized sleeping.
And my cat? He is Not. Having. It.
The Sulk Is Real
It started subtly. A flick of the tail. A loud, exaggerated sigh (yes, cats can sigh). Then came the passive-aggressive behavior. Sitting right in front of my screen. Knocking pens off the table one by one. Scratching the good chair even though he knows better.
He’ll stare at me from across the room with this tragic, Shakespearean expression, like he’s been betrayed by his closest human. How dare I coo over the kittens. How dare I film their tiny pounces and send them to friends. Where is his spotlight?
Meanwhile, the Kittens…
Completely unbothered. They tumble around like baby ninjas in training, plotting world domination in between naps. Every time one of them lets out a teeny squeak, my heart melts just a little bit more.
I’ve tried explaining this to my cat.
“You were this cute once, you know.”
Glare.
“You’re still my number one guy.”
Tail flick. Leaves the room.
“Okay fine, but LOOK at this kitten trying to climb a sock!”
Silence. Pure judgment.
The Secret Weapon: Upside Down Snuggles
Here’s the thing, though. As dramatic as he is, my jealous cat knows how to win me back. Late at night, when the studio is quiet and the kittens are next door in a bundle of snores and purrs, he’ll come to the door and let me know he's there for some one on one time, just him, no one else is allowed in… he'll run the stairs and wait me at the top to pamper him.
The jump up on my lap as I sit at the desk and monopolise me till he's read to find a spot close by where he'll watch me work.
It’s his way of saying:
“I forgive you for loving them. But don’t forget… I was here first.”
Fair play, UNO I got your back… we are team!
My Thoughts: There’s Room for Everyone
The kittens are a whirlwind of joy. But my UNO cat? He’s the soul of the place. Jealousy and all.
He might not love sharing the spotlight, but deep down, I think he’s secretly proud of his sister’s new batch of chaos gremlins. Even if he pretends to hate them.
Besides, I’ve got enough cuddles (and treats) for everyone.
Just… maybe not enough furniture.
Did you want to see the kittens or “him”? Let me know below and i'll see what i can do.
