Coffee IS Good For You

Good morning and happy Tuesday.

Who are you calling overcaffeinated?

Drinking up to five cups of coffee per day appears to be linked to a lower risk of stroke, diabetes, heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions, according to a new scientific statement by the American Heart Association.

It says the sweet spot for consumption is two to four 8-ounce cups of joe per day.

Not all javas are created equal, though. It’s better to stick to paper-filtered or instant coffee, because unfiltered types like espresso or French-press coffee retain cafestol, a natural compound associated with higher levels of “bad” cholesterol. It should also go without saying that adding heaps of cream, sugar, sweeteners or flavoured syrups can offset any benefits.

But, hey, it’s a great day for pour-over-drinking hipsters and beat officers everywhere!
