Part II: Scrunch, Fold, or Spray?
I noticed it travelling through Asia.
Toilet paper wasn’t a given.
Sometimes it was a hose.
Sometimes a bucket.
Sometimes… hope.
And that’s when it hit me.
Scrunchers.
Folders.
Sprayers.
Three approaches to the same human problem — and somehow, three unspoken tribes.
Scrunchers are efficient. Emotional. Get in, get it done.
Folders are methodical. Controlled. Systems people.
Sprayers? They’ve opted out of the debate entirely.
Different tool. Different mindset. Different definition of “clean”.
What’s funny is how quickly we judge.
Scrunching feels chaotic to a folder.
Folding feels obsessive to a scruncher.
Spraying feels confronting to anyone raised on dry paper and denial.
But none of it is about hygiene.
It’s about what we were taught.
What we’re comfortable with.
And what “normal” looks like where we grew up.
Change the country, and suddenly your way is the weird one.
And maybe that’s the point.
We think our habits are logical.
Until travel shows us they’re just familiar.
In the end, it’s not scrunch vs fold vs spray.
It’s comfort vs conditioning.
And we’re all just trying to walk away feeling… resolved.
