Am I a Generalist or a Specialist?
I’m a Guide — And This Is My Edge
Ever been told to “pick a lane”?
That you need to niche down?
Focus. Specialise. Master just one thing?
Yeah. Me too.
But every time I tried to cram myself into a neat little box, something inside me pushed back — hard. Because the truth is, I’m not wired that way. And chances are… neither are you.
What I’ve learned over the years is this: we’re not here to be one thing.
We’re here to shape a life around the mix of skills, curiosities, and lived experiences that make us — well, us.
So no, I’m not just a generalist.
I’m not just a specialist.
I’m a guide.
And my shape? It’s the letter T.
Let’s talk about why that matters.
The False Choice: Generalist or Specialist?
We’ve all heard the old clichés.
- “Jack of all trades, master of none.”
- “Pick one thing and be the best at it.”
- “You’ll confuse people if you’re not consistent.”
Those lines might’ve worked in a world of resumes and job titles.
But we’re not in that world anymore.
In today’s economy — where AI is replacing single-skill workers, industries are blending, and people want more than just a career — the “one lane” life just doesn’t cut it.
You don’t need to choose between breadth and depth.
You need a shape that allows both.
The Rise of the T-Shaped Human
Let’s break this down:
- The horizontal bar of the T is your range — your ability to adapt, understand different fields, learn fast, connect the dots.
- The vertical stem is your depth — the hard-earned mastery, the stuff you know inside-out.
In my case?
The top bar includes things like storytelling, travel culture, content strategy, behavioural psychology, and visual communication.
The vertical stem? That’s WordPress architecture, plugin ecosystems, SEO frameworks, and Bali’s tourism industry.
It’s not just a weird combo.
It’s a powerful one — because it lets me see patterns others miss and solve problems others don’t even know are there.
And here’s the kicker: it’s not just about skills.
It’s about how those skills build a life.
What Is a T-Shaped Life?
A T-Shaped Life is what happens when you stop separating “what you do” from “who you are.”
It’s the life version of hybrid skills. You blur the line between work, passion, location, and income stream.
Here’s what it looks like in the real world:
- You freelance in one lane while consulting in another.
- You build tech systems that support travel freedom.
- You market real estate using AI and storytelling instead of billboards and brokers.
- You explore ideas across cultures, then turn them into side income or new products.
You're not building a “career.”
You're designing a lifestyle — deliberate, flexible, sustainable.
And here’s the beautiful part: most people want this.
They just don’t know how to shape it.
Why I Became a Guide
I’ve been on this T-shaped path for decades — before it had a name.
Long before AI, digital nomad visas, or “portfolio careers” were trendy.
Along the way, I made all the mistakes:
- I tried to niche down.
- I let people tell me I needed to “get serious.”
- I undervalued my own weird blend of talents.
And then I realised: the thing I kept trying to fix was the very thing that worked.
I could speak both geek and human.
I could cross tech, travel, storytelling, and business without breaking stride.
And I could help others see how their “too many interests” was actually a superpower waiting to be structured.
That’s when the shift happened.
I stopped trying to “sell myself” and started guiding others.
Helping people see their shape. Define it. Live it.
So… What About You?
You might be:
- A designer who also loves behavioural psychology.
- A coach with a background in coding.
- A school teacher who can write sales pages in your sleep.
That’s your shape forming.
You just haven’t mapped it out yet.
And that’s what I want to help you do — not just in theory, but practically. Step by step.
Which is why I’ve created the T-Shaped Life Discovery Map. It’s free. It’s simple. And it’ll help you uncover your own unique mix.

Because once you understand your shape, everything else starts to click — your projects, your income, your messaging, your lifestyle.
Live It: This Is Your Edge
So back to that question:
Are you a generalist or a specialist?
Wrong question.
The better one is:
How do your skills shape the life you want?
And: Who do you need to become to build it on purpose?
If you’re feeling scattered, that’s not a flaw.
It’s unfocused capacity waiting to be shaped.
You’re not behind.
You’re just on the verge.
And if you want someone to walk beside you while you figure it out?
That’s where I come in.
Let’s start designing your T-Shaped Life — one bold, weird, wonderful step at a time.
